OFF TO N.Z.
GILLXGAN'S TEAM. Includes Two Of World's Finest Batsmen. SEND-OFF IN LONDON. (Australian Press Assn. — United Service.) (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 27. The New Zealand Association entertained the Marylebone team at luncheon. Sir James Parr, New Zealand High Commissioner, who flew back from the Geneva Conference, was present. He said the luncheon gave him a reason for leaving the Assembly two clays before its close. Nevertheless, he held a firm belief in the value of the League to New Zealand cricketers and sportsmen. Mr. A. H. Gilligan, the M.C.C. team captain, said he would not mention names, but the team included two of the finest batsmen in the world. Lord Bledisloe eaid he was taking to New Zealand in December a team who would be "batting against the googlies of economic policy," in the shape of seventy British farmers. They would visit a number of oversea Dominions., and would study up-to-date farming. The cricket team sails to-morrow. Mr. Gilligan later declined to say who are the two of the world's best batsmen he referred to. The curious-minded forthwith delved into the list of names, and the majority of critics favour Woolley and Du'leepsinhji; others would include Bowley.
