RETIRING BANK MANAGER.
PRESENTATION TO MR. J. B. KING There was a happy atmosphere in tht board room of the Bank of New Zealanc on Thursday afternoon, when between 40 and 50 prominent business men of thf sity gathered to show fitting tion of the esteem in which they hole Mr. J. B. King, manager of the Bank oi New Zealand, who is retiring on Monday next, and who leaves for England on November 9. In presenting Mr. King with two wardrobe trunks, four travelling bags, and two rugs, Mr. W. B. Leyland said thai all were sorry Mr. King was leaving, as his help and advice had always been appreciated. Mr. King was held in the highest esteem by the directors of the bank, and wherever be may be the best wishes of all would be with him. In thanking those present for the gifts Mr. King said never at any time could he have believed he would have been given such a reception. His feelings were mixed, because while he was looking forward with relief to giving up work, he felt it would be a great strain to sever the happy business relations he had formed in Auckland and elsewhere. Customs and methods had changed very much in the past 49 years, but the principles of banking business had remained the same. He was very grateful for the gifts, ,and could also gay that his experience was that his customers had always been willing to accept the will for the deed. He prized most highly the kindly feelings which had led to the function. Three rousing cheers were then given for Mr. King.
