TE AROHA JOTTINGS.

G. E. COX'S TEAM.

Messrs.- Burke and Te Apurangi, by Archiestown, lias joined G. A. Reid's stable. During his enforced holiday he has furnished very considerably, and if he stands a preparation should be quite a payable proposition, for he has already shown that he possesses speed. A. E. Cox's team have all been on the tracks this week. Black Maire looks fresh and well, as also does Glenison, while Ah Wera, although carrying the appearance of a paddoclc-trained one, is bounding along on the tracks as consistently as ever. The Lamb will start off as a hurdler at the Auckland spring meeting. The other members of the string, Miss Albyn and Dainty Arch, are making headway gradually in their preparations. Glenstar and Crown Arch are all the better for their Avondale efforts and if well placed it may not be long before they again get on the winning list. It lias not yet been decided whether they are to compete at Auckland next week. They-will probably be galloped to-mor-row, when a decision will be arrived at. Trig has not yet been able to show his best form, as he was affected during the southern tour with teeth troubles.

Mr. J. Pohlen's pair in G. Reid's stable, King Lap and Wee Prince, are being kept up to their work, and are improving week by week. It is probable that they may not be seen out until the Waikato meeting in November.

Bert Hinkler has not been asked to do much since his return from Avondale, but is looking bright and well. Master Latour, in the same stable, is going along nicely in his work. He was spurted the other morning and mustered up a. nice dash of speed. Gay. Comet and The Lamb were associated over a round of the hurdles on Tuesday morning. Both went well and jumped cleanly. The latter had an advantage over the Day Comet gelding when the post was reached. J. H. Wallace's team were among the workers . this week. Lucky Alice has brightened up as the result of her Avondale tasks, as also has Belle -Star, and both are probable starters at Ellerslie. William of Orange went somewhat sore at Avondale, but this lias now worn off and it may. not be long before he is forward enough to run a good race. Unique, who is now losing his burly appearance, is being sent along in faster work. This Tollbridge gelding has been/given every chance to mature. Sir Paissell is probably the most racy looking customer on the local tracks and his work is deemed satisfactory. When he again carries the colours he should at least perform creditably. Marble King has not been bustled since returning from Avondale. He carried the confidence *of his party there, but did not run up to track form.

On Thursday morning Cox's team of six put in serviceable work, Black Mairc, Ah-.Wera; The Lamb and Glenison acquitting-themselves creditably, while Miss AJbyn and Dainty Arch were allotted slow work. Wee Prince and Sir Russell, both carrying light weights, were associated over four furlongs. The latter broke away first and led his companion throughout in 51 4-ss. King Lap and Te Apurangi scampered over three furlong in 33 2-os, with the latter in front at the posi. Master Latour put in long striding work and Grand Arch went a couple of rounds at better than half-pace. Muskot was given three-quarter-pace work and was anxious to go faster. Unique slipped over three furlongs in 38 3-5s and appears to be improving, and Gay Comet rattled over a similar distance in a taking manner. William of Orange pulled, up sound after going a round, but Belle Star and Lucky Alice, who were on the coarse, were not worked.

NOTES FROM HASTINGS.

The two-year-olds Rapallo and Chrysology were taken to the barrier for the first time on Monday, and both acquitted themselves creditably. High Court has done well since returning from Wanganui, and his 1.15 for six furlongs on Tuesday was a good gallop. He ishould be capable of showing improvement on Wanganui running in the Spring Handicap to-morrow. A gallop which aroused interest on Tuesday was that of the first two-year-old winner,. Simba. He ran over three furlongs in 375, and did it well.

I'm Alone, one of Mr. W. G. Stead's team, has been galloping well lately, and should race prominently in the Trial Stakes to-morrow.

T. F. Quinlivan has brought Best Friend on a lot or late, and the Paper Money gelding should be able early to produce the good form expected of him.

Royal Parade; Who had a reputation for smartness as a two-year-old, has been working satisfactorily on the track, but his appearance suggests'that he will improve a good deal yet. Royal Parade is by Chief Ruler from the Manawatu Cup Winner, Paoanui.

The attractive-looking three-year-old Merry Melody, in W. Griffith's stable, is a speedy sort,*but. will; be benefited by a race or two. . He is a half-brother to Merry Damon, and was only raced a 'couple of -times - last season. !
