STOLE CAPTAIN'S WATCH.
DANISH FIREMAN IN TROUBLE WOULD NOT GO TO SEA. Once a member of the stokehold crew of the Danish research 6hip Dana, which cruised on the New Zealand coasts a few months ago, Frederick Gunnar Johannson (22) appeared at the Police Court this morning, when he admitted stealing a watch, valued at £3, belonging to Allan Glass, on September 22. Chief Detective Hammond said Johannson left the Dana at Auckland last Christmas, and had been hanging about the town. "He won't work —he is a big, strong, able man, and he will not go to sea," added Mr. Hammond. "Last Sunday he went down to the scow Nor'-west and was given a meal and a bunk on the scow. While there Johannson broke open a locker and stole the captain's watch." Johannson was sent to prison for one month.
