CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL PERTH'S ATTRACTIVE PROGRAMME THE CENTENARY CUP. With trotting booming in West Australia there, has been for some time ihorses occasionally leaving New Zealand to race at meetings staged by the West Australian Trotting Association. A couple of years back, the Australasian Championship encouraged the owners of Great Bingen and Taraire to send these fast pacers over. As is well known Taraire secured the honours, and has remained in the West ever since. Now the officials of the association have drawn up a very fine programme, which they offer for the Christmas carnival, and owners interested will find it published in another column. „ The carnival extends over four nights, December 26 and 28 and January 1 and 4. On the night of December 20 the principal event is the City Handicap of 350sovs, for horses with placed performances of 2.18 or better, one mile and a-quarter. On the second night, December 2S, the Centenary Cup will be staged. This Tace carries a stake of 1500sovs and a gold cup valued at 100 guineas. It is for horses with placed performances of 2.19 or better, and will be run in heats over one mile and a-half. The event will be run in heats as required, and SOOsovs of the stake is divided among winners of the heats. On the third night are the New Year Handicap, of 400sovs, for horses with placed performances of 3.21 or better, one mile and threequarters, and the Trotters 5 Handicap of 200sovs, for horses with placed performances of 2.35 or better, two miles. On the final night, January 4, the big race is the Metropolitan Handicap, of SOOsovs, for horses with placed performances of 2.22 or better, two miles. Nominations for ,tho City Handicap, Centenary Cup, New Year Handicap and Metropolitan Handicap, close with the secretary of the West Australian Trotting Association, Mr. A. R. Flint, or with the secretary of the New Zealand Trotting Association, Christchurch, at 5 p.m. on Monday, October 28. As mentioned above the programme is- advertised elsewhere in'this issue.
