SENIOR CUP TIE.

Y.M. DEFEAT NORTH SHORE. A hard and interesting game was the outcome of the meeting of North Shore and Y.M.C.A. in their Senior Cup tie on Blandford Park last night, under floodlight conditions. Shore are to be commended for resting Qerrard and J ones, their most capable defenders, in view of the Wellington-Auckland representative match on Saturday, and the youthful eleven they fielded gave the Y.M.C.A. a hard and gruelling fight for victory. The teams were: — Y.M.C.A.—Hilliard, Mowat, Otter, Malcolm, Chapman, Ricldolls, Ross, Clanachan, Humphreys, McAuslan, Ba>iley. North Shore.—A. Smith, Colebourne, H. Smith, Haycock, Hart, Cowie, Hutter, McDonald, Dow, Jay, Whitely. Play in the first spell was of the real cup tic order and flashed from goal to goal by long hard kicking. Some of the players seemed to find the artificial lighting troublesome for a time, but improved as the game progressed. After the Shore citadel had narrowly escaped from a long shot by Hartley, the Devonport men came away strongly. The forwards bore down on Mowat and Otter, and, snapping up an opening, Jay, with a great shot, put Shore.one ahead. Matters livened up after this, and exchanges were willing till the interval, which arrived without alteration to the score. The Y.M. opened the second spell with a vigorous' onslaught, and kept, on the aggressive for some time. Shore defence, however, was stubborn, and broke up most of the attempts of their opponents at combination. Ultimately, however, Humphreys' got through to beat Smith and level the scores. The closing stages were conducted at a very willing pace, but the better cohesion of Y.M. brought them victory, Humphreys a,2ain scoring. The final whistle sounded with the scorc Y.M.C.A. 2, North Shore 1.
