RACEHORSE FATALLY INJURED

DEATH OF WELKNE

MOTOR CAR COLLIDES WITH HIM,

The racehorse Welkne, owned by Mr. B. Goldwater and trained by J. Thorpe, at Ellerslie, had to be destroyed this morning as the result of injuries received through a motor car colliding with him on the Great South Road at Penrose.

It appears that Welkne was out doing walking exercise and a motor car, which was proceeding in the same direction, struck him behind. The horse had his pelvis broken, and it was found necessary to shoot him.

This is very bad luck for his owner and trainer, as Welkne showed every promise of getting on the winning list before long. He was by the Welkin from Angelina and was raced by Mα - . W. G. Stead before being acquired by Mr. Goldwater.
