NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of thn Northcote Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor, Mr. A. E. Greenslade, presided. Onepoto Crater Reserve.—lt was decided to thank the Auckland Harbour Board for its offer to lease for recreation purposes the Onepoto tuff crater tidal reserve of 41 acres, for a period of 50 years at a nominal rental. The board is to be informed, however, that when a scheme for the development of the area is prepared the board will be asked to modify other stipulations. A committee, consisting of the Mayor, Messrs. H. J. C. George, A. Facer, R. Martin, C. J. W. Taylor, H. Weaver, and R. C. Cross was appointed to further the project for the conversion of the area into a recreation ground, and to consider arrangements for financing the scheme. Kauri Gully Reserve.—The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote with reference to the portion of the Kauri Gully Scenic Reserve, which, it was desired, should be set apart for recreation purposes, asking whether the council was yet in a position to formulate definite proposals in connection therewith. The Mayor stated that the area in question had been inspected a week ago by a prominent official of an Auckland parents sports club, with a view to furnishing a report as to the suitability and cost of laying out the ground, fbrj playing fields. The result of these investigations was not yet available. The matter was left to the Reserves ■Committee. ■•; Appreciation.—Mr. John Potter, of Seaview Avenue, wrote thanking the council staff and Fire Brigade for the good work on Monday afternoon, when a fire ran through his property from the head of Little Shoal Bay reserve. The borough overseer stated that the suggested firebreak, 20ft;.wide, around the reserve, would cost approximately £30. It was decided to ask the Birkenhead Council to share this cost. Unemployment Relief.—The Public Works Department notified approval as an unemployment relief work, of an improvement scheme in Waimana Avenue. Bus Regulation.—The No. 2 Licensing Authority wrote that it was considered a compromise should be arrived at, and made a condition of the license, that all buses before turning must be driven direct to the Northcote wharf entrance when containing ten or more passengers, but suggesting a conference with representatives of the Waitemata Bus Company, with a view to agreement on' a recommendation on the point. It was agreed to invite the bus company representatives to confer at the next meeting "f the council. A closing order was issued in respect to a house at Sulphur Beach, the owner of which had failed to carry out repair? as required by the Health Department.
