LOCAL BODIES.

MOUNT ALBERT BOROUGH COUNCIL The Mount Albert Borough Council met Last evening, the Mayor, Mr. L. E. Rhodes, presiding. Post Office—The Postmaster-General wrote advising that no funds were available for ..the erection of new post offices at Mount Albert and Eden-dale, but he expected that the Department would be able to place a post office at Mount Albert terminus early next financial year. He asked for specific instances to support the complaint of delay in the delivery of telegrams at Edendale. Telephones—The ' District • ' Telegraph Engineer advised that the Department intended to convert the single telephone booths a.t Edendale and Mount .Albert termini into double boxes, and to erect a single booth near the corner of Edendale and Brixton Roads. Building.—'The building' inspector reported that in the past three weeks he had issued building permits to the value of £5783. Five permits for buildings were issued, their value amounting to £3450. Mount Albert Road—The joint committee reported that a. letter 'had 'been sent to the Mount Roskill Road Board to draw their attention to the breaking up of the bitumen strip in Mount Albert Road, and to ask if they would contribute to its upkeep on a 50-50 basis with Mount Albert. / Engineer.—Mr. W. E. Begbie, wlvo has been acting-engineer to the council during the past two years, has been appointed resident engineer. As acting-engineer, Mr. Rhodes stated, Mr. Begbie had constructed nine mile of sewers, and had laid many roads, in all of which his work had given perfect satisfaction. ,Water.—The joint committee reported having agreed to pay the City Council 1/ per 1000 gallons on all accounts due for water. Other local bodies, it was advised, should be informed of the decision. Loans. —The Minister of Public Works wrote stating that the Department would be willing to subsidise the postponed £5000 'loan for unemployment relief works. The council, therefore, decided to ask permission of the Local Bodies Loans Board to raise the loan.
