NEW FOOTBALL FIELD. 1
TRAIN SERVICE CURTAILED
EFFECT OX SCHOOL PUPILS.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)'
WHAXGAREI, this day.
As the result of a decision by the High School Board last evening it j s likely that a second football field will be formed adjacent to Rugby Park. This will alleviate the congestion on the main ground and enable Rugby authorities to concentrate on their own ground instead of relying upon other playing areas in the town. The grounds committee last evening reported that the area which it wag proposed should be taken was in a very rough state, quite unfit for sport. Th e board would benefit throun-h its bein<r levelled. ' ° It was decided to grant the union permission to use the ground on the same terms as the "peppercorn" rental for Rugby Park. At the same time it was decided to notify the union that the board might at any time wish to put a road through the property. Remission of Pupils' Fees. Faced with several applications for the remission of boarding fees from parents whose children have been ordered to hospital during the school term, the High School Board last evening appointed a committee to investigate the practice adopted by other hoards! The Railway Department proposes to discontinue between Hukerenui andWaro the usual G. 49 a.m. Hukerenui-Whangarei train, and discontinue entirely the 4.15 p.m. Wliangarei-Hukerenui train. The first mentioned train will continue to run between Waro and Whauigarei. The curtailment will affect the pupils travelling to Whangarei High School, and seven from Hukerenui and Whakapara will have no conveyance, as the road i$ impassable. A large number of pupils from intermediate stations will have to use a bus. Canadian Bowlers' Tour, Bowlers were keenly disappointed on receiving the proposed itinerary of the Canadian team, to find that the North Auckland centre had been omitted. Visits have been arranged for Nelson and Blenheim, smaller bowling centres, which have had visits from previous teams. Players in this district complain that since the centre has been formed no member of the Dominion executive has visited the North, which has been neglected for ten years. The local greens are in excellent order and already there has been some play on them.
