MR. S. G. MAXWELL.

A well-known engineer, Mr. Shirley G. Maxwell, lias died after a brief illness, aged 68 years. He was born at Otengi, Mangonui, and served his apprenticeship to the engineering trade at Fraser and Tinnes. He then joined the Union Steamship Company as third engineer of the steamer Arawata*. He remained with the Union Company for. 22 years, rising to the position of chief engineer. Mr. Maxwell was then appointed marine representative for the Vacuum Oil Company at Sydney. In 1901 Mr. Maxwell married Miss Preece. Deceased, with his t wife and daughter, had been on a world tour, and were returning to Sydney when Mr. Maxwell was attacked with an illness that proved fatal. One son is a marine engineer at present in Europe.
