TALLOW, WOOL, HEMP.
The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated September 21, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow.—There was no auction this week. The market is quiet but steady, and prices are unchanged. Wool.—The sales continue with good general competition. Values remain the same as the opening rates. Hemp.—Manila: The market is somewhat irregular, and business is quiet. Closirfg values, "J" grade, October-Decem-ber shipments, £36 10/. Sisal: The market is quiet but steady at last quotations. New Zealand: Prices are unchanged. Little is offering, but buyers are holding back, as the prices are considered too dear compared with Manila. Sales are reported in fair at £31 10/. Nominal comparative closing values, highpoints, £35; fair, £31 10/; common, £30 10/. Tow: Second grade, £22; third grade, £17 15/. Stocks in England at August 31, 88 tons, against 86 tons at the same time last year.
