ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Mayor, Mr. E. Morton, presided last night at a meeting of ithe Onehunga Borough Council.
Slot Telephone.—The District Telegraph Engineer notified that a public telephone would be installed at the junction of Mount Smart' and Athens Roads next montih.
Memorial Arch.—Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P., advised that he had made arrangements with the Hon. T. M. Wilford to officially open the Onehunga war rmemorial arch on October 20, if .possible. Failing Mr. Wilford, another member of the Ministry would officiate. The council decided to proceed with the necessary arrangements for Sunday, October 20.
Street Collection.—The Salvation Army was granted permission to take up a street collection on October 18 towards their self-denial fund. The secretary of the Hauraki Labour Representation Committee wrote that his committee viewed with concern the increasing number of street collections and suggested that the time was opportune for all local bodies to approach the Government, asking it to provide the necessary funds from revenue for all legitimate and necessitous organisations. This will be considered in committee next Monday.
Encouraging Empire Trade.—The MuhiCJPJU Association, acting on advice from H.M. Trade Commissioner, urged that when ordering plant and equipment in Great Britain all local bodies should specify that the country or origin should be definitely stated by the -tenderers.'
1e Bapapa Deputation.—A . deputation from Te Papapa requested the council to erect a shelter shed at the bus terminus, near the reserve. A plan was submitted' provmding also for a convenience. The proposal will be considered in committee.
