WHIPPET RACING.
AUCKLAND CLUB
A SUCCESSFUL TRY-OUT,
A successful outing, organised by the above club, was held during the week-end, when members and owners or. dogs gatnereu at Swanson Park to give their charges a number of practice runs. An ideal racetrack was constructed to take six dogs in a heat, and racing was o£ a high order. Spectators were much impressed by the dogs' performances. The hurdle race was productive of much excitement, and provided a keen finish, the winner securing the honour by the narrow verdict of a nose. Members of the club are confidently looking forward to a successful season when the official meetings commence. Details of Saturday's contests are as follow: — ~ ,t, Puppy Race.—S. Jacobs Stormy 1, 11. Taylor's Bess 2, M. C. Hardy's' Heather Swanson Plato.—First heat; Mrs. Woodham's Bonnv Maid 1, M. C. Hardy's Laughing Lass 2, G. Hunt's Fleetfoot 3. Second heat: W. Dyer's Bonny Argyle 1, ■V Avery's Duke 2, T. Davios' Miss. Overland ?>. Final: Bonny Maid 1, Laughing Lass 2, Bonny Argyle 3. k Open Handicap.—First heat: Bonny Maid 1, Miss Overland 2, Fleetfoot 3. Second heat: Duke 1, M. C. Hardy's Lightning 2, Heather Bell 3. Final: Bonny Maid 1, Duke 2, Miss Overland 3. Hurdle Race. —Laughing Lass 1, Duke 2, Miss Overland 3.
