CHESS.
A chess match played at Whakatane on Saturday evening between the Rotorua and Whakatane Clubs resulted in a win for the local team by 6 games to 4. Following is the result of the play, the visitors being mentioned lirst in each instance:—Fraer beat Smith, Paterson lost to Palmes, Andrews lost to Cleland, Kurney lost to Miss Giffnev, Butt beat Gardiner. Howe beat Archer, Richards lost to Jackson. Downes beat Prideaux, Musgrave lost to Moore, HesketU lost to Bloore.
