"MIRACLE" OF SWEETS.

British Officer Dissipates

Fears Of Arabs.

JEWS ACCUSED OF POISONING. (Australian and N".Z. Press Association.) (Received 12 noon.) JERUSALEM, September 23. Crowds of Arabs trooped from the office of Major Harrington, deputySuperintendent of the Palestine police, shouting, "Maashall" (wonderful. The visit was the outcome of wild-fire rumours that the Jews were selling poisoned sweets to the Arabs. They took along samples.

"My friends," said Major Harrington, "do not be silly. Look here." Then getting back into his chair the major took the sweets and ate them one by one. The Arabs, open-mouthed with fear and astonishment, waited for the major to die. When nothing happened there were loud cries of amazement, and the Arabs went forth to spread the tale of the miracle. The action prevented what might easily have been another racial outbreak.
