OLD PEOPLE'S HOME.

WHANGAREI CONTROVERSY, SALE OF SPA PROPOSED. . (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. The long-standing controversy over th# building of an old people's home caused a long discussion at yesterday's meeting of the Whangarei Hospital Board. Mrs. Donaldson moved that the home be built on a site above the hospital annexe, or adjacent to the hospital grounds. This caused a somewhat heated discussion, Mr. J. A. It was decided that the Minister's consent be sought for proceeding with plans of a building to house SO persons, at an estimated cost of £3000. The money is available. Mr. McLean then moved that fhe board request the Department of Health to •rrant authority for 'be selling of the Kamo Springs property, comprising threo acres and a house, at a price not less than £3500. The motion was carried by six votes to three. Tho board also decided to terminate forthwith its agreement with the Public Works Department for architectural services, except for the work now being clone to extend the children's ward. Members expressed strong disapproval of the delay in the supply of plans for the children's ward job. At the request of the superintendent of the Y.M.C.A., St. John Division, it was decided to approach contributory local bodies regarding the imposition of a levy for
