YACHTING.
CLUB AND COUNCIL. CREDIT OR ' The Manukau Yacht and Motor Boat Club, in a letter to the Onehunga Borough Council last night, expressed their keen resentment of the remarks attributed to the Mayor,(Mr. W. C. Coldicutt), with regard to the yachting clubs and Cornwallis wharf, when the subject came up for discussion at the council meeting on September 24. The letter, written by the; secretary of the club, (Mr. J. W. Rawlinson),stated that no promise, was made or Implied by the Manukau Yacht and Motor Boat Club, but'they undertook to endeavour to raise £20 towards the full £100 required to complete the wharf.i At the time the criticism was levelled at the yachting clubs the Mayor had only been asked for half the total amount i.e., £50, and he had actually received £11/10/- from this club, this being more than half the amount lie had suggested they should raise. A further £8/10/making up the total to £20, had since been paid, and under the circumstances the secretary trusted the council would see that the Manukau Yacht and Motor Boat Club received credit for'its endeavours, instead of*, the discredit that had so far teen its only reward. The Mayor said that he had never discredited the yacht club, it was another club that had not kept its promise to subscribe to the wharf. He ha furnished the sec-' retary of the'yacht club with the names of all the subscribers to their donation.
