NATIONAL PARK HOSTEL.

ADVANCE OF £4Q,000l

QUESTIONS IN THE HOTTSE.

FINANCE FOR PARK BOARD. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Commenting on the clause in the Finance Bill which empowers the Public Trustee to lend £40,000 for the erection of a hostel in Toagariro National Park, Mr. J. A. Lee (Auckland East) asked if this loan, guaranteed by the Government, was to be advanced by the Park Board to a company already in existence. "Is this another Goodfellow proposition?" asked Mr. Lee. "Is public money being advanced to a private corporation as it was in the case of the Goodfellow Radio Company? Other companies should have the right to tender under these conditions for the erection of the hostel." The Minister of Lands, the Hon. A. D. McLeod, explained that there had been no response to two calls for tenders, and Cabinet had authorised the Parle Board £o make arrangements, which led to the present arrangement under which the Mount Cook Motor Company to run the TVmgariro hostel. It was not a question of advancing money to the company, because the finance was for the board. Mr. Lee: But other companies would | tender if they knew they could « e t £40,000.
