WAIHI NEWS.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. The first children's fancy dress ball held in Waihi for a number of years took place in the King's Hall last evening. There was a large attendance at the ball, which was organised by Mrs. Carpenter, and was an unqualified success. The principal prize was won by Jack Worthlngton, who represented Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith, and carried a model of the Southern Cross. Frederick' Arnold, alias Curtis, aged 52, who, according to the police, has been hanging round the streets and doorways, sleeping out, without sufficient food, appeared in Court to-day. The Bench con-sidered-him in urgent need of proper attention, and ordered his detention in the loek-up for a week.
