THE SEMI-FINAL, GAMES.
A SURPRISE BT OTAHUHU. DEFEAT OF UNIVERSITY. The Devonport Shield matches were continued at the Remuera Grounds under splendid weather conditions on Saturday afternoon. The ground was hard and fast, but very bumpy, causing the ball to spin in a most disconcerting manner. Despite this handicap the play reached | a good standard and all the games were keenly contested. The day's play leaves an interesting situation, for although Somerville still maintain a lead of two points, the true position will not be known until the meeting of the leaders and Otahuhu next Saturday. In a clash with many interesting situations, Mount Eden, playing one man short, pushed Somerville to suffer defeat by 4 goals to 2. Otahuhu brought oil a surprise by defeating University by 4 goals to 3. Epiphany excelled themselves in a victory over University Whippets by 4 goals to 1, while Training College improved their position by defeating Somerville Colts by a solitary goal. THE DAY'S SURPRISE. Otahuhu brought off the day's sensation by defeating University in a game which was marked from end to end bv fast scoring and Incident. 'Varsity opened op the scoring and finished the spell one ahead, goals being hit by Badcliffe, Lamb and Hamilton, while F. Gardener and Jenkins got goals for Otahuhu. Marly in the second half Jenkins evened up the scores, and in a ding-dong finish he added his third goal of the game, to give Otahuhu the win by 4 to 3.
EVEN GOING. It was even going all through between Training College and Somerville Colta, with no score in the first half, and Training College getting the verdict as the result of a goal hit by Meiklejohn early in the second spell. MOUNT EDEN'S EFFORT. Playing a man short, Mount Eden* gave Somerville a hard fight for more than half the game. Chaplin and H. Watts got goals in the first spell, which ended with the score one all. After that the pace told on Mount Eden, and C. Watts scored twice In quick succession. A rally by Mount Eden saw Fletcher add a goal, but the effort was not sustained, and E. Watts put another into the net, enabling Somerville to win by 4 to 2. TEN ASIDE. Epiphany and *Varsity Whippets played a ten-aside game. In which Epiphany held the upper hand throughout and won by four goals to one. Hewitt (2), Taw and Merryweather scored for Epiphany, and Adams got 'Varsity's single goal. JUNIOR RESULTS. THIRD GRADE. Wesley (second grade) drew with Waltemata (third grade), no score. FIFTH GRADE.' Mount Albert Grammar 6, . beat Mount Eden 2.
