THE LONG WAY ROUND.

FROM SUVA TO PAPEETE. BISHOP KEMPTHORNE ON TOUR. The Rt. Rev. L. S. Kempthorne, Bishop of Polynesia, arrived by the Niagara from Suva to-day, en route to Papeete. He will leave to-night by the Main Trunk express to catch the Maunganui, which sails from Wellington to-morrow. The extent of the Polynesian diocese is illustrated by the fact that in order to travel from his headquarters in Fiji to his station in Tahiti it is necessary for Bishop Kempthorne to make the long circuit by way of Auckland and Wellington.

Bishop Kempthorne stated that the work of the Polynesian mission was proceeding very satisfactorily. Since he was in New Zealand, in April last, he had been visiting islands near the Equator, but apart from the steady progress of the work there was not much to report. " I am now visiting Tahiti," said the visitor, "as it is my aim to go there about once a year." He added that Tahiti being under French jutisdiction, most of the church activities there were those of the French Protestants. On his way back to this Dominion, Bishop Kempthorne will visit Rarotong.i, where the work of the Anglican Church is also established. He will be in Auckland again in January next.
