GIRL'S FATAL JOURNEY.
IJBFT HOUSE WEARING APRON.
DROVE CAR ALL NIGHT.
Investigations are still being made concerning the mysterious death of Miss Elsie Walker, aged 18, who was found d6ad in the scrub at an old quarry near the Knox Home, Panmure, on Friday evening. Dr. D. N. W. Murray completed the post-mortem examination of the body on Saturday. However, until the report of the analyst concerning the contents of the stomach has been received, Dr. Murray cannot complete his report and give the cause of death. The police have definitely ascertained that Miss Walker left her uncle's place at Papamoa, near Te Puke, on Monday night last at about 8.30. It is believed that she drove her uncle's car, which she took, from Te Puke to Papatoetoe, via Rotorua. The car was found abandoned at 2 p.m. the following day, the petrol tank being then empty. It is further suggested that the deceased drove the car all night on Monday. It was thought at first that she was unable to drive, but that she could drive a car has been established beyond all doubt. The mark of the clutch of the car has been plainly left on the waist of the left rubber shoe which Miss Walker was wearing when found. Miss Walker did not tell her uncle or aunt that she was going away. She must fcave left in a hurry, for she took a boy's coat, which had been hanging up in the garage, with her. When found she was still wearing an apron usually worn in the house. She had plenty of good clothes at home but did not take any away with her. It is stated that recently, Miss Walker had been behaving peculiarly. The motive for her sudden departure from her aunt's house is still a mystery.
