BIRKENHEAD ORPHANS.
The annual meeting of the Birkenhead and Northcote Orphans' Club was held in the Masonic Hall, Northcote, on Saturday evening. The president, Mr. J. W. Lethbridge, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, which was carried, pointed out that the club had enjoyed a very successful season, both in respect to its social amanitipg and the financial position. The surplus on the season's working amounted to £33/7/2, after depreciation on the club's assets had been allowed. Mr. Lethbridge presented the past president, Mr. H. D. Boles, with a pastpresident's badge in appreciation of the services he had rendered.to the club. The following were elected officers for the ensuing year:— President, Dr. J. W. Craven; vice-presidents, Messrs. Walter Messenger, liobt. B. Brown, E. C. Davey and Norman E. Heath; secretary, Mr. Dave M. Lawson; treasurer, T. L. Wernham; committee, Messrs. W. U. Lillburn, E. J. Chiplin, W. R. Pike, C. Powell and O. Tarbutt; auditor, Mr. A. E. Greenslade; programme steward, Mr. R. J. Thompson; chief steward, Mr. A. W Millar. After the business meeting a social evening was held, when an enjoyable programme was presented. Several selections were played by the club's orchestra, under Mr. W. Webb; elocutionary items were contributed by Mr. Norman fi. Heath; songs by Messrs. A. Boswell and R. Callaway; and cornet solos by Mr. Jas. Giles. The accompanist was Mr. N. R. Harris.
