UNIVERSITY BILL

COMMITTEE AMENDMENTS. W.E.A. SUBSIDY £200. -,HONORARY DEGREES. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") n WELLINGTON, , this day.. An amendment made in the New Zealand University Bill by the Education Committee of the House of Representatives will limit to £200 annually the Government subsidy on local authorities' voluntary* contributions to the Workers' Educational Association. The original clause regarding conferring of honorary degrees by the Academic' Board had a provision that the University Council couldact in this matter if the Academic Board failed to do so in a reasonable time. This provision the committee has deleted, and it has made an amendment which enables the University Council- to delegate to any standing or special committee • its power .to confer honorary degrees.
