"AIXAH-O AKBAR!" COMES FEOM THE EAST, : . £30,000 MOSQUE.- t Even Central London is to hear the cry of the Muezzin from the peace of the minaret, calling the faithful of Islam to worship five times a day—in early lnornin<* at noon, in the afternoon, at sunset.' and in late evening: for the priest's "\Hah-o akbar'!" is to summon them to a.iiem Moslem mosque, for which over £30,000 has been raised, though a. site for it has yet to be chosen. - The mosque will be on the model of the one in Paris, which was WJn 1924 in the Spanish-Moorish style of the 14th century, after the existing mosque of Medreseh Bou Anania at Fez. _ There will be. accommodation for 1000 people in the new mosque. The principal feature if a .mosque « the mihrnb, or niche, which is sunk in a" built at right angles to *n imaginary line drawn from Mecca, and Indicates the' direction towards which the Moslem should turn Ven engaged '"Siiue itself consists of a large open court surrounded by arcades, witn a fountain in the. centre for the ablutions before prayer. ■ Lord Headley, the Moslem Peer, .and the chairman of the British Islamic ■Society, who has-recently returned from India, "has. organised ■ the building fund.
