DEMAND FOR DEBENTURES. BANKS SELLING WELL. The business transacted on 'Change during the past week was distributed over a number of different lines. There seems to be a fair amount of money available for investment in War Loans and various debentures, provided the prices asked are not too high. Several fair-sized parcels .01 4% per cent War Loan, 1939, were placed at £99, and Soldiers' 5% per cent Loan, 1933, had sales at £101 5/, the inscribed 1 issue being placed at 2/6 under that figure. Various 6 per cent debentures were asked for'at from par to fifty shillings premium, and for Auckland Harbour Board 6'pei , cent £103 is steadily offered. Auckland Power Board 5% per cent debentures are inquired for at £99, and that brought in a seller at £101-5/. Auckland Fire Board 6 per cent were offered at £104 10/ and Hamilton Fire Board 6 per cent at £103 10/, but buyers did not offer above par for either line. A seller came in yesterday o£ Buller County Council 5 per cent debentures at £95. N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency ordinary stock continue to advance in price, buyers raising their offers to £115 this week, but no seller quoted. P. and O. Deferred Stock is another line for which higher prices were offered, the latest buyer being at £243. Dovonport Ferry shares had sales at £1 5/, and for Northern Steam 14/4 was paid, also 6/8 for the contributing issue. Shares on Woollen companies are in good demand. Kaiapoi ordinary issues sold at 13/, and for Wellington Woollen preference shares as high as £6 15/ "was offered yesterday. The ordinary issue could be placed at £6 12/6. Coal shores continue ill good demand. Several sales were made of Pukemiro Collieries at £3 10/• (ex div.) Hikurangi Coal ordinary shares changed hands at 5/7, and for the preference issue buyers advanced their offers to 10/ yesterday, but no seller quoted. More disposition is shown to buy shares in the Kenoivn Collieries, sales being made at 13/ and 13/1. Taupiri Coal could be placed at £1 8/6, and for the preference issue buyers no'.v offer- £1 3/, the same price as before the dividend was paid. A number of sales of Auckland Gas shares took place at £1 3/4 to £1 3/1, and then an extra penny was paid. Contributing Auckland Gas again sold at 17/3. Sales were made of National Timber shares at 9/6 and of Farmers' Trading (ordinary) at 7/6. The latter price was also paid for Newton King preference issue. Business was done yesterday afternoon in National Mortgage Agency shares at £4 5/, and for Dalgety, Ltd., shares buyers advanced to £15 1/6. Farmers' Auctioneering ordinary shares firmed about three shillings during the last fortnight, buyers 'now offering £2 19/, but there were no sellers. Goldsbrough, Mort shares could be placed at £2 11/, and there has been steady inquiry for N.Z. Farmers' Fertiliser (£1) shares at 17/. Sales were made of N.Z. Eefrigerating ordinary shares at 18/11, at which rate more were offered yesterday afternoon. N.Z. Breweries were offered at £2 14/6, but buyers stopped at £2 13/. N.Z. Breweries (debentures) sold.; at £1 4/3, and Staples' Brewery are wanted at £1 18/3. Shares in picture companies had more inquiry this week. Hayward's sold; and are still wanted, at £1 0/C. Dominion Pictures (both issues) could be placed at £1 2/, and Fuller's Pictures are in steady request at £1, with no quoted sellers. There has also been a steadv buyer of National Pictures at 12/6. Checker Taxi (£1) shares had a sale at 7/6, and buyers now offer 6/6, but sellers ask 10/. At the-third call yesterday a sale was reported of Henry Jones, Ltd., shares at £1 18/10%, and during the week £3 10/ was paid for Kempthorue, Prosscr Drug. Union Oil shares had business at £2 3/, and there are.still buyers at sixpence less. British Tobacco shares sold at £2 3/9. .. New Zealand Insurance had transactions at £2 5/3, and more were offered at that rate yesterday afternoon. United Insurance finned to buyers at £11 5/, and National Insurance sold at 16/5. Queenslands are still wanted at £3 5/ and South British at £3 2/. Australian- Bank of Commerce shares were offered yesterday at £1 13/10. Sales were made of Commercial Bank (preference issue) at £7 7/0 and of National Bank of Australasia (contributing issue) at £9 12/. A seller come in at the third call yesterday of the paid issue at £19 8/6. Business was done in Bank of New South Wales.shares at £51 7/6 and in Union Banks at £15 6/. A number of sales were also made of Bank o£ New Zealand shares at £3 1/3, and buyers still offer threepence under that price. ! Waihi shares had sales from 13/10 to 14/,-and'could still be placed at the latter figure. Ohinemuri Mines changed hands at 7/4, which is a slight decline.- Taranaki Oil shares eased to sales at 7/6 and 7/3.
