It. Overton) on results of taking a power load survey over the board's area, comprising the Hobson County. ■ Mr H. H. The annual meeting of the Taihape Chamber of - Commerce was held last evening, when Mr. Loader presided over a full attendance. The annual report and balance sheet, showing a credit balance of £19 13/2, were read and adopted, the president remarking on the very satisfactory financial position of the chamber. The election of officers resulted:—President,. Mr. H. McCallum; vice-presidents, Messrs. Haydon, McLean and A. Fannin; executive committee, Messrs. Collinson, Neagle, Butler, Nlcholls, Loader, Arthur, White, Chrlstensen, Reid, Pedersen, Hamlll; auditor, Mr. A. M. Ryan; secretary, Mr. Harold Trumen.

Mr. L. Hill, the Taihape postmaster, has received notice of his promotion to Dannevirke Fost Office. Mr. Hill has been prominent In' tennis circles, while Mrs. Hill has been chief commissioner, of the Girl Guide movement in the King Country. Mr 1/ I. Wallace, of the legal firm of Fullerton Smith, is leafing Taihape to take up duties with tlie Wanganui branch of the Public Trust.

The Matamata Chamber was represented by Messrs. T. E. Macmlllan and L. Flower, and 'Messrs. p. 3Bain and J. Kelly, of the Maunganul Progressiva Association, were also present. A reply was received from the town clerk to the chamber's letter drawing attention to'the unsatisfactory condition of the approach at the railway station, in-which he explained that the responsibility rested with the Railway Department) . The secretary of the Auckland Chamber wrote in reply- td a letter regarding the commerce train, stating that the train is scheduled to leave Matata at 4.1 p.m., making a non-stop run to the Strnnd station,' Tauranga, and arriving at 5.21 p.m. The return train could .be delayed until after 10 p.m. " The secretary, Mr. Robins, writing to the Auckland secretary under date September 10,- requested a rearrangement of the time-table, as the arrangements outlined would not give this chamber any Opportunity to show visitors the advantages of this district fOf Close settlement. Moore, chairman of the Kural Credits Board, visited Matamata this week, and delivered an address to the members of the Matamata branch of the Farmers': Union. ■..'. Extensive, additions are being carried out to the Mataraata Post Office. These will mean that the postmaster will no longer have living accommodation on the premises. The main counter will be increased in length from 10ft to 30ft. The mailing room will be 32ft by 26ft. The Matamata Rugby Union has concluded its season. It remains the holders of the Finlay Cup, the premier trophy for Waikato Sub-union, and the junior team was runnerup for the Clark Cup, the premier junior trophy. Financially the season did not quite come up to the previous year, owing to the union fulfilling many outside engagements. TE .PUKE. The Te Puke Town Board held Us monthly meeting on Monday night. Mr. John Persey, the new member, wns welcomed by the chairman. The Main Highways Board forwarded authority for the subsidy of £iii'j for the maintenance of the main road through the town. THAMES. ' In order to suitably recognise the'twenty- • seven years of faithful service rendered by the late Vicar, the Eev.'Dr. O'Callaghan', to St. George's . Church,. Thames, it. was decided to raise a memorial fund. At a meeting of the subscribers to-the fund it ■was agreed that the memorial lake the form of •a-'neW font- for the- church, and the choice of the desiprn was left In the hands ofthe vicar and Mrs. K. F. Adams. While in Auckland tho "other day they decided on a white marble font, the design of which was sent to the Archbishop for approval. The amount collected and promised will just about meet the cost, of the font chosen; The Thames District War Memorial, which stands on the hill at the eastern Bide of the town, nnd is considered one of the best in the Dominion, requires floodlighting to complete it, and the committee made a public appeal for funds. A meeting of citizens decided to hold a citizens' ball, which was an unqualified success. At a final meeting of the Citizens' Committee, the balance-sheet for the.ball was presented, and disclosed that £03 12/u had' resulted through the effort. ... The Borough Council decided to dipose of its quarry at Waiotahi as a going concern. The position disclosed was that after running for a period at an approximate loss of £13«7, the venture had landed the borough in a total liability of £25,550. Approximately £10,000 was absorbed In loan charges.
