MEN TO BE PAID OFF.
A meeting of the Howick Towa Board was held last evening, when the financial position of the local body was discussed at length. It was decided that all operation# should cease, and that all men should be paid off until a thorough investigation is made into t,>m board's financial standing. It was decided to refund half the rates charged on a house, belonging to Winstone, Ltd, as the building has been unoccupied for six months. A letter was received from Means.
