NURSES' QUALIFICATIONS.

HOSPITAL POSITIONS.

RECOMMENDATIONS TO BOARDS. (By Telegraph.— Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, Thursday. The annual conference of the New Zealand Trained Nurses' Association is being held in Dunedin. At this morning's session a telegram was received announcing the death of Miss E. Stott, who recently resigned her position as matron of the Wellington Hospital. Those present stood as a mark of respect to her memory. The following remits were approved, and it was decided to send them as a recommendation to the hospital boards and the Nurses and Midwives' Registration Board:— That no nurse should be appointed to a sister's position until she has been a staff nurse for at least two years after the State examination in her own or another hospital, or both. That before a staff nurse is appointed to the position of ward sister she should pass a further test in practical nursing, ward management and teaching methods. That in hospitals where a fourth year's service is expected of the nurse she should have the opportunity during that year of qualifying in one of the following subjects: Maternity nursing, child welfare nursing, neuropathic nursing, tuberculosis nursing.
