A SUCCESSFUL OWNER.
MR. E. J. BARTON'S MIXED TEAM(By Telegraph.—Owd Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, this day. Mr. G. J. Barton, owner of Gold Tinge, which won the Breeders' Plate at Randwick, is best known as a trotting owner. For two years he was second on the list of winning owners, but he topped the list last year. He won the Auckland Trotting Cup with/Nelson Derby, and two other good ones he has raced are Napland and Bell Harold, the latter being so reliable that he was the best money proposition that has carried Mr. Barton's colours. At present he has some good trotters in training, the list including Coneliff, Vestas, Elzear, Tonic, Happy Rosa, Hinkler, Dalmeny, Wooden Bridge, and two classy two-year-olds—a Nelson Derby colt, and another by Cathedral Chimes—Marie Lloyd. The breeding of trotters, too, is a hobby with Mr. Barton,'and he has eight brood mares at the stud. On the turf Mr. Barton's most promient success up to the time of Gold Tinge's win was Ark Royal's success in the Dunedin Guineas lasi year. The gelding went wrong on the eve of the Wellington meeting, and although his demise was recorded in many papers, he is fit again and will soOn make his appearance the colours up. Other gallopers which the Dunedin owner has in* training are Antrim Boy, Royal Flower,, a full-sister to Ark Royal, Joy Bridge, Artistic, Academy, and a highclass Leighton . gelding. He recently sold Puff to an Australian buyer, and reduced the number of his brood thoroughbred mares to two. Mr. Barton has also ten yearlings to carry his colours when asked.
