MISSING CATTLE DOG.
STOLEN FROM FARMER. OLD OFFENDER'S LAPSE. "I wouldn't have had a dog on me mind if I'd been sober, your Worship," said William Richard Bryant (63), who admitted to Mr., F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court this morning that he stole a bearded cattle dog worth £10 belonging to Thomas Henry Gordon at Waihi on August 18. It was stated by Chief Detective Hammond that Bryant stole the dog and entrained it to Otahuhu. However, he failed to take delivery of the dog and afterwards it was returned to its owner [by the police. "Bryant is an old | offender and has been here scores of times, mostly for offences arising out of drunkenness," added Mr. Hammond. "What's he doing now?" asked the magistrate. "He only earned out of gaol this morning after doing a month," replied the chief detective. Mr. Hunt sgid lie did not wish to send Bryant straight back to gaol again. He was convicted and ordered to pay expenses, which amounted to 7/8.
