FIRST BOARD TO BE NOMINATED. ELECTION. EVERY TWO YEARS. 1 (By Telegraph*—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Negotiations concerning the proposed Auckland Transport Bill have ended in a victory for the Auckland members of lailiament, who this morning secured :a compromise at the last of a long series ot conferences with the Mayor of Auckland (Mr. George Baildon), the Mayor of Mount Eden, Mr. E. H. l'otter, and the city and suburban representatives. • ,' s e , x P e eted that a Transport Bill, in mbre or less skeleton form, will be introduced by Governor-General's Message late to-night or early to-morrow afternoon. • The trtins of compromise are a bill of 12 clauses, providing for a referen-dum-in the city and outer districts on the transport merger question. The referendum is to be held within 42 days of the passing of the bill into law. Another clayse will provide that the hill shall be i Operative till its provisions are confirmed by resolution of th» City "Council. The Transport Board will be ■nominated (if the referendum is successful), and will be re-nominated next May by the newly-elected «\'ty Council and the outside local bodies. In 1931, however, the board will be elected for two years on the municipal franchise, and that method will be followed thereafter. I Mefssrs. Baildon, Potter, and Bloodworth, with the City Solicitor, . Mr. Stanton, are remaining in Wellington to see the bill safely through all stages. No obstruction is anticipated, and, with a clear passage, the bill can easily be dealt with before the end of the session.
