ATHLETICS.
DOMINION ASSOCIATION. BODY'S NEW STATUS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. At Ifst evening's meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association information was received from the secretary of the International Amateur Athletic Association that separate representation, i.e., representation apart from the Australian body, had been granted to the association, the new status taking effect from September 30, 1928. It w£s decided to send a letter to the Australian Amateur Athletic Association, expressing pleasure at the happy working relations which had hitherto always . existed between the two bodies, and regret at the severance. Every success would be • wished the Australian Association in its athletic future.
ROTORUA STEEPLES.
BOTOBTJA, this day. Pupils of the Rotorua High School held their annual steeplechase yesterday afternoon in fine weather, over the farms of Messrs. Jolly, Hunt and Ford. There were about 120 competitors. The senior event, about four miles, resulted:—Dawson (scr), 1; C Pitson (scr), 2; B. Randerson (scr), 3. Time, 24m 52Js. ''
The Intermediate steeplechase, under 16, about four miles, resulted: —M. Matthews <»cr), 1; G. Hall (15s), 2; D. Ryder (scr), <5. Fastest time, M. Matthews, 20m 49|s. Junior Bace, under 14: 2J miles. —N. Gainsford (30s), 1; J. Meeson (scr), 2; Skinner (10s), 3, Fastest time, J. Meeson, 14m 398. The championship points were awarded as follows:—Senior: K. Dawson, 5; C. Pitson, 3; B. Randerson, 1. Intermediate: M. Matthews, 5; F. Rathel, 3; K. Devln, 1. Junior: J. Meeson, 5: G. Beale, 3; K. Matthews, 1.
STEEPLECHASE AT HAMILTON.
TECHNICAL SCHOOL EVENT. HAMILTON, this day. In the annual steeplechase of the Technical Higlj. School yesterday afternoon, the first man home was V. Lewis, whose time was 13m 158. A large number started, and most of the runners finished. Hubbard got away first and led for three-quarters of the way, with Lewis, Silvester and Clarke a little way behind. Silvester and Lewis then took command, and came into the straight together. Lewis won by about 2 yards. Clarice was third, with F. Hubbard fourth. Hubbard won the Herbert Smith trojfhy for the first boy home under 15 years of age.
