TROTTING.

WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES.

(By ORION).

G. Mitchell has put iii a lot of time with the trotter Sebisca. The gelding is not a good one, but is solid enough to have a chance in a'weak field. His best record is 4.40 4-5 and at his last start at the June meeting he ran second off a 4.48 mark. Hal Chimes a couple of seasons back was a smart miler in saddle, but as a harness proposition he has not done any good. He does not do much racing and is on the limit of the Improvers' Handicap, a position he is entitled to. Bright Light is being selected as likely to get solid support in the Waitemata Trot on Saturday week-if he lines up-w ith the field. The gelding has gone 3.35 1-5 for a mile and a half and 4.47 for two miles, and in his last start ran third off 4.47. In the Waitemata Trot he is on 3.37. Gold Star developed into a useful sort of introductory class trotter last season. G. Stevens has him in work at Claudelands and he is expected to put in an appearance at Epsom next week. Gold Star went 4.53, winning, for two miles last season, and also ran second in a mile and a half, his time being 3.41 4-5. On Saturday week be is handicapped on 3.38, so that he is handicapped right up to the limit, G. Robertson has not asked Billy Carbine to break any records on the track. The bay gelding ran one. or two good races last season when trained by A. Ayres. To get third on one occasion Billy Carbine went 3.39 3-5, and it seems a bit hard handicapping him on 3.40 and putting Marble Star, who went 3.29 3-5. to win;- on a 3.35 mark. Marble Star may not win, but there is a wide difference in the way he and Billy Carbine have been handicapped. If there is one horse Mr. Paul seems to have an exalted opinion of it is Dick Dillon. The chestnut at best is honest, but he does not win much money and although he has raced at almost every meeting at Epsom for some seasons he has never yet won a harness race on that course. His best time for a mile and a quarter is 2.49 1-5 driven right out with the whip,.and he is on 2.49jn the Electric Handicap on Saturday week. On paper the handicap appears right, but when compared with other horses' form Dick Dillon is harshly treated. For instance, William the Great, 2.48 winning is on 2.49; Nelson Tasker, 2.47 4-5 winning, on 2.48; and Lord Nepean, 2.46 4-5 second, is on 2.49. The action of the committee of the Otahuhu Trotting Club in making Mr. A. G. Mabee a life member of the club is fitting appreciation of the good work done by the now secretary of the Auckland Trotting Club_ Mr. Mabee has traversed all departments of the trotting sport. In the years gone by he owned and raced several horses, the best being John Harold, a smart pacer in his day. When it was decided by the Trotting Conference to appoint two stipendiary stewards for the Dominion, Mr. Mabee was selected as one and for 14 years he held the position* Last year he resigned to take over the position of secretary -of the Auckland Trotting Club. Busineslike and courteous to all, Mr. Mabee is popular in all roles.

OTAHUHU TROTTING CLUB.

MR. A. G. MABEE A LIFE MEMBER. At a meeting of the committee of the Otahuhu Trotting Club the highest compliment was paidj to Mr. A. G. Mabee, for many member of the Otahuhu Club, afterwards a stipendiary steward for 14 years, and now secretary of the Auckland Trotting Club. The committee in recognition of the valuable services rendered to the Otahuhu Club and trotting sport generally, has now made Mr. Mabee a life member.
