BASIC SLAG.
handling of cargo. CABINET TO CONSIDER. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The handling and stowage of basic slag were the subject of a question in the House of Representatives to-day by Mr. W. E. Parry (Auckland Central), who asked the Minister of Labour to state the Government's intentions in connection with the recommendations of a committee appointed by the Hon. G. J. Anderson. Mr. Parry said the committee had been set up to inquire into handling and stowage of basic slag, quality of the bags used, thd" practical use of other containers, injurious effect on health, and methods of preventing the dust nuisance. "The report of the committee has been received," stated the Hon. R. A. Wright, "and it shows that the committee took great pains in their research to find a solution to this problem. If the recommendations are given effect to, new legislation will not be necessary. There is sufficient power under the Act to make the regulations that would be necessary. "At the present moment I awaiting a report, as to details," concluded the Minister, "and when that report comes to hand from the Department, I shall * place" everything before Cabinet as soon as possible."
