FIRE IN A PULPIT.
ATTEMPT TO BURN CHUECH. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, Monday. When the caretaker of the Balclutha Presbyterian Church entered it on Sunday morning to prepare for the morning Service he- was met at the door by a cloud of pungent smoke, which- came from a fire in the pulpit. The minister's chair was almost a charred mass, and 9 large hole had been burned in the carpet of the pulpit. In a room off the vestry the window curtain was discovered to have been burned, and there were several burned matches lying on the floor. Apparently an attempt was made to 4urn down the church.
