BOXING.

TAIHAPE TOURNAMENT. (From Our Own Correspondent ) TAIHAPE, Saturday. Under the auspices of the Taihape Amateur Boxing Association a very successful tournament was held at Taihape this evening. There was an exceptionally large attendance, there being a packed house. Competitors were present from Palmerston North, Patea. Maston. Wanganui, and' Feilding. The special bout of the evening, between B. O'Keefe, of Palmerston North, who has figured in 160 previous bouts, and \V. Clark, a prominent boxer, of Fordell. Wanganui. resulted in a draw, at the conclusion of the four two-minute rounds.. Taihape performers did exceptionally well, both Dillon and C. McMahon winning their bouts before completion of the required three rounds. Scrown. of Patea. the; welter-weight champion of Wanganui. again fought his runner-up. C. Eagle, of Utiku. anil was once more successful, winning the bout on points after the fourth round. Mr. C. Breed, of Wanganui, acted capably as referee. The evening was opened by an exhibition bout between L. Mercer <B.S) and E. Robinson (9.3), both of Taihape. Results were as follows :— Fly-weights (three two-minute rounds).— •T. Taylor (Wanganui), 6.7. drew with K. Hartley (Taihape),7.o. Feather-weights (three two-minute rounds). —W. Gregory (Taihape). 88. los>t to H. Bright (Utiku). The fight was stopped in the third round. Light-weights (three two-minute rounds) —J. McMahon (Taihape), 9.9. defeated W. Smith (Marton), 10.0, on points. W. Marsh (Wanganui). 9.4, was soundlv trounced by C. McMahon (Taihape) In one minute fifty seconds. The round was thrilling and was fighting from «ttrt to finish. Catch-weights.—"Plugger" Dillon (11.4). after one round and one minute fifty-four seconds of lively fighting was pronounced the winner over J. Kingi, of Fordell (12 4). Middle-weight (four two-minute rounds)., —-W. Thurston (Utiku), 11.9, lost to 3. Bickers (Taihape). 11.0. After a scientific bout. Bisters proved victor on points. His straight hard left mainly influenced the decision. Welter-weight (four two-minute rounds). —C. Eagle (Utiku), 10.9, lost to B. Scrowc (Patea). Wanganui welter-weight champion. 10.9. on points, after four strenuous rounds. Heavy-weight.—An exhibition bout was given by Ward Brothers, Ray (11.0) and Vic. (11.6). H. Thurston (Taihape) defeated T. Halpin (Palmerston North), both 11.4. The first and second rounds went to Thurston, while Halpin proved victorious in the third. The fourth, however, was narrowly won by Thurston. This proved the most interesting bout of the evening. Special Bout (four two-minute rounds).— W. Clarke (Wanganui), 9.9, drew with B. O'Keefe (Palmerston North), 10.0.
