HOCKEY.
A KEEN STRUGGLE. SOMERVILLE v. ST. LUES'S. OTAHUHU PLAYERS SENT OFF. Another stage of the Devonport Shield competition was advanced at the Remuera Grounds on Saturday afternoon under good conditions. The result of the play gives Somerville a two-point lead in the competition. The chief attraction was the meeting of _the old rivals Sbmerville and St. Luke's, and in a very 'hard struggle the whites' forwards managed to penetrate the stubborn defence of the St. Luke's backs and register the solitary goal to gain the day. Otahuhu and Epiphany in the most crude display of the season— «imply an exhibition of fast running and hard hitting, that" resulted in a scoreless draw. Mount Eden, in an uninspiring display against Somerville Oolts, won by deftult 3 goals to 2, and the Colts were unlucky to lose; Wine by default went to University and Training College. The contest between Otahuhu and Epiphany? was marred through two Otahuhu players being ordered off.
SOMERVILLE AGAIN.
Against St. Luke's the club champions set a strong pace at the outsfet, and initiated a series of robust attacks. These, however, were strongly met, and it was not until near the close of the session that E. Watts got the ball into the net. Throughout the second spell St. Luke's made an improved showing, but they could not finish off their occasional attacks, and the game ended:

COLTS' GOOD EFFORT.
Against Mount Eden the SomervQle Colts made a strong bid, and the opening session was especially lively. A score by Fetcher ■was matched almost at once by one from Smith, and at half-time the teams were level. An early score by Smith In the second half had Mount Eden on their toes, but despite desperate efforts it was not until Just on time that Chaplin found the net twice in quick succession to give Mount Eden the win by 3 goals to 2.
A HARD GAME.
Hard and was the play throughout between Epiphany and. Otahuhu, and both goata were regularly visited without profit to either side. As the second spell wore on without score, and Otahuhu were conducting strenuous attacks, two of the Otahuhu plavprs wpr*» sent to the sidellnp. in spite of this handicap Otahuhu retained the upper hand, but were unable to score, and the game ended in a draw.
JUNIOR RESULTS.
SECOND GRADE. Wesley 3. beat Mount Eden 0. FOURTH GRADE. St. Luke's 2, beat Mount Eden 1. FIFTH GRADE. Mount Albert A 10, beat Grammar A 0. LADIES' GAMES. JUNIORS. Technical 4, beat Mount Eden 1. GAMES IN THE PROVINCE. WAIHI. The Thames ladies' team defeated Walhi 4 goals to 1. , ROTORUA. A ladies' match between Rotorua and lount Eden (Auckland) teams was played n the Government ground on Saturday in 'i'illiant weather. The home forwards proved too good for the visitors' defence ind won by 6 goals to 2.
