IMPORTER LIFTS CUP,

THURSBY'S JELLICOE HANDICAP, j ( a TWO DEAD-HEATS IX DOUBLE. I The annual meeting of the Pakuranga Hunt Club was held at Ellerslie on Saturday in beautful weather. There was a good attendance, and, although the going was holding, the racing was full of interest. Importer won the Hunt Club Cup and Thursby annexed the Jelliroe Handicap. Flying Juliet scored in the Diuiedin Handicap, after a stirring ; finish from BiHikins and White Wings, who dead-heatecl for second place. * There was a false start in the Ladies' Bracelet, owing to the barrier slipping, and the race had to be re-run. Most of the competitors did a round, and a few went on to finish at tlia post, Lassau beating Ramblin' Kid, with Ashleigh third. Mov Hall and Man aiti were two that did not take part in ths false start, j and they finished in that order when i the field was properly dispatched. The public made a demonstration when the field returned to scale. During the day the sum of £39,186 was put through the totalisator, compared with £41,927 10/ for the corresponding meeting last season, a decrease of £2741 10/.The Hunt Cup. Bahadur, Waitaunaha and Marita were withdrawn from the Pakuranga Hunt Cup, for which the public selected Importer as first choice, entrusting him with £1705, the next in rcqueat being To Horea ( £881) and Pompeius ( £724). Over the double the first time the order was Te HQrea, Huirangi Girl, Clockwork, Importer, Pompeius, Motive, Master Arch and Rafferty. As they went up the hill Pompeius had taken charge from Te Horea, Clockwork and Importer. Pompeius led over the double the second time round, followed by Importer, Te Horea, Clockwork, Rafferty ;t<}id Master ATch. The order was the same along the back and Pompeius was still in front as they went up the hill again, where he made a faulty jump at the first fence but recovered quickly and led down the hill from Importer, Te Horea and Rafferty. Importer had taken charge as they came into the straight and went on to win by six lengths from Master Arch, who finished on well and lieat Pompeius for second -place. Te Horea was fourth, with Rafferty and Clockwork next. - Cashier Wins Easily. .The Lover and Knight Town were the defections from the Auckland Handicap. Cashier was made a solid favourite, carrying £1706, the next in demand being Bombarder £932 and Winnington £590. The first to show out waa Win- , nington, Bombarder, Cashier and Myola. Al'ong the back Violation -went up into fourth place and crossing the top the order was Winnington, Bombarder, Violation, Cashier, Doublemint and Myola. The Bracelet. Mashoor and Royal Ensign were withdrawn from the Ladies' Bracelet, a mile and a-quarter event, for gentlemen riders. Moy ball Lassau (£1106), and Pekatahi (£696) were best supported when the machine closed. The barrier slipped when the field lined up at the start, and Mr. O'Connor called the riders back, but all went on, with the exception of Moy Ha 11 and Mangaiti. First Prince and Waitaunaha were pulled up, after going a few but the rest' of the field continued on, although several stopped when they got around to the starting point again. Lassau, Ramblin* Kid, Ashleigh and Pekatahi continued on, the' riders being under the impression that the race was in order. Lassau passed the post first, with Ramblin' Kid and Ashleigh next. When they returned to the post, they were soon dispatched correctly, and Miss Alma was the leader from Mangaiti, Moy Hall, First Prince, Lassau and Pekatahi. Along the back Miss Alma, First Prince, Mangaiti and Moy Hall comprised the leading division, and the order was the same across the top. Miss Alma led Moy Hal) and Mangaiti, into the straight, but Moy Hall had little trouble in" getting the verdict by three lengths from Mangaiti, who" beat Miss Alma by two lengths. First Prince was fourth, then came Pekatahi, Lassau. Waitaunaha, Template, Ramblin' Kid, and Ashleigh. A Great Finish. Prince Otto and Ballymov IT. were the defections from the Dunedin Handicap, the last event on the programme. BiHikins, £1138, was a good favourite, with Kaiti, £1067, and Nancy Lee, £060, also strongly supported.
