DRAPINGS OF TULLE.

The All Saints' queen carnival came to an end on Saturday night, the Ifinal votes being opened just before midnight. Miss Norene Bennett was chosen with 24,000 votes. Miss Clare Brown, the Heme Bay queen, was second. Miss Eileen Hunter, the children's queen, and Mrs. Walker, the guild queen, followed in this order.

A large number of couples danced to the strains of the latest music at Dixie-land-by-the Sea on Saturday night. A number of pretty frocks were worn. Amongst those present were: Mrs. H. Over ninety children took part in the grand march of a children's fancy dress ball organised at Dargaville in connection with the forthcoming Roman Catholic bazaar. The function was an unqualified success. The judges, Mesdames Barlass, Martin and Rush, awarded the following prizes:—Most original costume, Lily Chapman, spider web; best girls' costume, Joyce Kelly, Old English; most original boys', Lawrence Hackett, bear: best bovs' costume, Jack Anderson, French artist; best costume, tiny tots, girls, Faith Bennett, Lady Marjory; boys, Lorin Olko, Father Christmas.

The twenty-first birthday party given by Mr. and Mrs. J. Myers, of Mount Eden Road, on Saturday evening was a very jolly affair. There- were favours, balloons, streamers and a pretty flower debecked supper table. The young guest of honour wore sage green georgette with gold and spray of cherry coloured flowers; Mrs. Myers was in blue and gold marocain, w-ith ponder blue. Among the guests were: Mrs. C. Little, Mrs. W. Gilligan, Mrs. Everett, Mrs. R. Sproul, Miss Nancy Myers, Miss Joyce Little, Miss Mavis Buckley, Miss Mary Dunn, Miss Doreen Ross, Miss Madge Standing, Miss Mona McKinnon, Miss Glory Dowling, Miss Mona Myers, Miss Dyson, Miss L. Barron, Miss Alice Creedon, Miss Mavis Dowling, Miss L. Heaton, Miss R. Buckley, Miss Gabrielson, Miss Haysted] Misses G. and 31. Dowling.

The Tamaki Boating Club held a very successful leap-year evening in .the St. Andrew's Hall, Otahuhu, on Saturday. The evening was organised by lady friends of club m'embers. Mrs. T. Clement was in charge of the proceedings. The dance music was by Mr. and Mrs. Chris. Deverall, Mrs. Viney and Miss A. Clark. Items were contributed by Mrs. Fugal, Miss A. Clark, Mrs. Fobister, Mrs. A. Murdock, Mrs. N. Walters and Miss E. Moss. During the evening there was a Monte Carlo and a spot waltz, the winners being: Monte Carlo, Miss McFarlane apd Mr. A. Fearnley; spot waltz, Mr. J. McCory partner. A dainty supper was sePked by the ladies' committee. At the conclusion of the evening, Mr. J. Viney, commodore of the club, thanked the ladies for" the successful evening on behalf of the club members.

An enjoyable flag 500 was given by Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Cole at their home, Harp of Erin, on Saturday evening, in honour of Mrs. McAneny, of Sydney. Play was keenly contested; the largest number of flags were won by Mrs. Empen, Mrs. F. McAneny and Mrs. Toy; consolation prizes to Mrs. McAneny, Mrs. Erickson and Mr. Xagle. The oard room was gay with pretty spring blooms and a very tempting supper was served. Mrs. Cole received the guests, wearing mauve and fawn crepe de chine, shawl to tone. The guest of honour wore a pretty gown of black panne velvet and silver lace, with fur wrap and was presented with a pretty posy. The guests included Mrs. G. Monk, black georgette and lace; Mrs. Auger, Lido blue and cream lace; Mrs. Nagle, black crepe de chine, pink shawl; Mrs. J. Hogg, navy silk and fawn; Mrs. J. Erickson, mauve silk; Mrs. B. Swinburn, blue silk and lace; Mrs. Toy, cyclamen crepe de chine; Mrs. F. McAneny, pretty apricot crepe de chine; Mrs. R. Hampton, grey crepe de chine; Mrs. Empen, blue silk.

The official opening of the .Sir Henry Brett Memorial Home at Takapuna on Saturday took" place in glorious sunshine, and the beautiful old garden, so loved by the donor, with its choice shrubs and plants, was admired by all present. Besides the twenty or thirty children present were the matron, Mrs. Paddock, and two of her staff, Miss Feilder and Miss Martin, and amongst the visitors Mrs. Averill, Mrs. J. W. Williamson (the Mayoress), Mrs Mac Murray, Mrs. Young, Mrs. Monckton, Mr. and Mrs. A. Brett, Mr. and Mrs. E. Brett, Mr. and Mrs. Donald, Rev. and Mrs. H. B. Wingfield, Miss E. Brett, Mr. and Mrs. Kingsford. Mrs. and Miss Lorie, Mrs. A. J. and Miss Virtue, Miss Morrison, Mrs. C. H. Holland. Mrs. and Miss Scarborough, Mrs. Kindred. Miss Clark, Sister Kathie (Mission Home, Grey Avenue), Miss V.- Monckton, Mrs. Robertshaw, Mrs.-Sandes, and Miss O. Platts.

A large number of dancers attended Miss Spencer's studio on Saturday evening. New items were provided by Jack Rowe's Orchestra.
