£10,000 Worth Stolen From
Registered Package.

COLOMBO, September 28,
A theft of jewellery worth over £10,000 from a registered package is reported by a Belgian commercial traveller, M. Wilberts. The package was insured and contained 52 pieces of jewellery, each weighing about 25 carats. It was dispatched from Singapore to Colombo by registered post.
On arrival at Colombo M. Wilberts claimed the packet from the Customs, and on being opened it proved to be empty. The jewels were enclosed in a tin box and scaled. The seal had been lifted by a hple drilled underneath, the jewels .removed and the seal replaced intact.
