ROTORUA NOTES.
Mr. and Mrs. G. French, Pukuatua Street, have returned from a motor trip to Gisborne. Miss A. Downey is spending a holiday at Dannevirke. Mrs. J. Shine, who has been the guest of Mrs. Grove senr., Fenton Street, has returned her home at Putaruru. The Rev. J. \Y. Burley and Mrs. Burley have returned from a visit to Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Hogg, who have been the guests of Mrs. A. G. Holland, Carnot Street, and Mrs. Giesen, Hinemaru .Street, have left for their home in Hastings. The Mi sses White, Malfroy Road, have returned from a visit to Auckland. Miss Wilson, of Dunedin, is the guest of Mrs. A. G. Holland, Carnot Street. Miss Jean Giesen has returned from a visit to Auckland. Mrs. F. Thompson is the guest of Missr McFarland, Napier. At Dixeland, Rotorua, on Friday evening an enjoyable and successful first annual ball was given by the Rotorua High School Old Boys' and Old Girls' ! Association. Festoons of red and blue [ streamers, the schools colours were suspended from the ceiling, with clusters of gaily coloured balloons. Hunter's [orchestra supplied excellent dance music, and extras were played by Miss L. Downey. Several novelty dances added to the evening's amusements—the Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs. Thorban and Mr. Shaw, and the souvenir lucky number dance won by Miss A. French I and Mr. N. Smith. On Monday evening, at the staff mess- ' room. King George V. Hospital, the matron and nursing staff gave a delight- ' fill farewell party, the guests of honour being Dr. and Mrs. R. S. Whiteside, who are leaving King George V. Hospital for Waiuku. The room was prettilv arranged with bowls of white clematis and greenery. The evening was devoted to competitions, cards and dancing. The I competitions were won bv Misses E. j O'Shea and V. St. Clair. Messrs. Yerex , | and Q. Rees-George. After a dainty supper, Dr. L. A. Lewis, medical superin- i tendent, expressed regret at Dr. White- ! side's departure, thanked him for his ; loyalty to tlie hospital, and referred to i the happy relations obtaining between i him and the staff. After wishing them all j happiness, prosperity and success in j their new home. Dr. Lewis. 011 behalf of the nursing staff, presented Dr. White- ; side with a brass cigarette box. Mrs. j Whiteside with a brass tray, and Master \ Peter W hiteside with a china porridge bowl. Dr. and Mrs. Whiteside suitably responded. To receive the guests, Miss A. Searell, matron, wore a frock of navy crepe de chine, with touches of cherry: Mrs. Whiteside's frock was of navy georgette, relieved with Chinese red. The guests present were: Dr. and Mrs. R. Dorset. The second annual meeting of the Kotorua Hunt Club was held on Monday afternoon. when, after the hunt, the patrons were entertained at afternoon tea by Dr. H. Bertram and Mrs. Bertram, at their residence, The Mount, Ranolf Street. Among the many guests present were Mr. Wynne Brown, master, and Mr. D. Sampson, whip, of Cambridge, Miss B.
