An enjoyable afternoon wa9 spent at St. Colu m ba'3 Church Hall, Surrey ( lescent, on Wednesday, when the J-ailies' Guild gave a gift afternoon for t lie benefit of the sale of work to be held early in October. The hall was tastefully decorated for the occasion and (lie guests were welcomed by the president, Mrs. Hawkey. A competition among the large number present was won by Mrs. Pettybridge. Songs were rendered by Mrs. Baker and Miss Mona Lewis, Miss Leesp, and Miss Rita Lewis being the accompanists. Miss Jean Douglas gave a recitation, and after refreshments had been served, Mrs. Hawkey thanked most cordially all those present for the large number of gifts received.

A popular social and dance was held in the Manurewa Public Hall on Thursday evening, the large number present including many visitors from surrounding districts. Dancing was enjoyed till midnight, excellent music being pro■v ided by Mr. and Mrs. Kiddell and Mr. H. Gibbs. Several pretty dance numbers were contributed by the following juvenile artists:—Miss Isla Dulihanty, I.'ussian dance; Miss Velma Heaven, (•lug waltz; Misses Dulihanty and Heaven, dance duo. Humorous recitations were given by Miss Connie Gilbertson and Miss Hope Dulihanty. Keenly contested competitions resulted in the prizes being awarded to Mrs. i'eguero. Mr. D. Peebles, and Mr. Kiddell. Light refreshments completed a thoroughly enjoyable evening. A very jolly party was given to a large number of young people by Mr. and Mrs. Rosenfeldt at their residence, Devonport, on Wednesday evening. The reception rooms were beautifully decorated in streamers and spring blooms. Excellent music for dancing was provided by Mr. Ryan's jazz hand. Interspersed with the dances were games and competitions, after which a dainty supper was served. Mrs. Rosenfeldt received the guests in old gold and floral georgette. She was ably assisted by Miss Marjorie Rosenfeldt, wearing ivory georgette over pale pink crepe de chine, and Miss Dorothy Rosenfeldt in a black and gold frock, with shoulder spray of daffodils. A very enjoyable evening was spent last night at the home of Mrs. F. Prosser, Queen' 3 Parade, Devonport, when the guests were entertained at "Flag Euchre." The Manurewa Lodge of the Manchester Unity Odd Fellows held its seventh annual ball in the local theatre last evening, the function being a splendid success. Visitors were present from Franklin, Otahuliu, Parnell, Remuera atid many other surrounding lodges, also the district officers. The large theatre was beautifully decorated. The musicians were under the direction of Miss Pope (Takanini) and their efforts were greatly appreciated. During an interval in the dancing a number of popular Maori songs were contributed by Mr. Warbrick, accompanied by Miss E. L. Fenton. The grand march was led by Bro. W. Bell, X.G.. with Sister L.
