WAILING WALL.
Jews Indignant At Intervention
Of Police.
WORSHIP INTERRUPTED.
("Times" Cables.)
JERUSALEM, September 26.
The Jewish community in Jerusalem is indignant because of an incident on the Day of Atonement on Tuesday. At the .most solemn moment of the morning service at the Wailing Wall British and Arabian police rushed in among 1000 massed worshippers and proceeded, under orders, to remove the wooden partition which had been erected in accordance with the orthodox Jewish practice to separate the male and female worshippers.
It is alleged that in smashing the partition the police injured several people.
The Wailing Wall area is not Jewish property, but a semi-public thoroughfare. The employment there of benches and other impediments to passers-by is prohibited. A Moslem protest against the partition led to the action of the police.
