SPORTS PROTECTION LEAGUE.
At a meeting of the executive of the Auckland branch of the Sports Protection League. Mr. George Baildon presided. In his report the secretary stated that the league might take up the matter of the formation of municipal links in Auckland. The president (Mr. Baildon) said that this matter was already under consideration by the City Council. In other parts of \ew Zealand municipal links had proved payable ventures. Regarding the general work of the League, he drew attention to the fact that it had secured an amendment to the Valuation Act whereby a remission was made in taxation on privately owned ground which was used, for recreation and not for gain.
After some discussion the meeting decided to request candidates at the forthcoming election to . pledge themselves to maintain the present privileges for totalisator betting and' to support the Summer Time measure next seasoc
