VICTORIA LEAGUE.

Masses of Iceland poppies arranged in tall vases, blending with the orangecoloured furnishings of the Victoria League rooms, made the scene a very bright one yesterday afternoon, when a reception was held to welcome Lady Myers back to Auckland. There was/ a large attendance of members and a thoroughly enjoyable time was spent. In a short speech of welcome, Miss Mowbray, president, expressed the pleasure of the League at having Lady Myers with them again. She referred to the splendid work done by the late Sir Arthur Myers, who was one of the League's most ardent supporters, in the past. In replying to the welcome, Lady Myers spoke of the "activities of the League. "In England," she said, '"we hear a great deal about the Victoria League, nnd other committee-? all look to the league for its support." The Victoria League always made people feel at home. The English Speaking Union wa* also doing a great deal, both at home and in Europe, and anyone coming to England would be sure of a welcome these organisations. During the afternoon reference was made by Miss Mowbray to the death of Mrs. Finn, who had been one of the League's oldest members, and members were asked to stand in silence as a mark of respect. A number, of letters were also read, one being from the Victoria League in Western Australia, expressing their appreciation of the kindness shown to their member, Mrs. G. H. Johnson, who was in Auckland recently. Songs were sung by MrCorbin and Miss M. Faire. Miss Mavis McCulloch recited, and a pianoforte solo was played by Miss Cherry Anderson. Tea and conversation concluded a very happy afternoon. The hostesses of the afternoon, in addition to Miss Mowbray. were Lady Sinclair-Lockhart. Lady Nolan, Mrs. Devore. Mrs. J. B Maefarlane. Mrs. Rickerby, Miss J. Murray, Miss Gerard, Mies Chapman, and Miss Sin tor.
