NORTHERN BRANCH FLOURISHING

WHANGAREI, this day,

The first annual meeting of the St. Andrew's Society was held in the Presbyterian Hall last evening. The balancesheet showed a credit of £21, with liabilities nil.

The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr. W. A. Carruth; chief. Mr. Magnus Eraser; chieftain, Mr. D. A. McLean; secretary and treasurer.. Mr. R. V. Thompson (re-elected). There was keen competition for seven vacancies on the council, and a ballot resulted in the following being elected; —Messrs. L. Thomson. J. A. Inkster, A. V. Provan, W. J. McLeod. Alex. Fraser, A. E. Scott and W. Cochrane.

Thirty-seven new members were elected, bringing the total to 90.
