" LIKE ENGLAND.”
ENGLISH STUDENTS’ VISIT. INVESTIGATIONS IN DOMINIONS. The first batch of English public school and University students to visit New Zealand under the scheme introduced by Mr. L. M. S. Amery, Secretary of State for the Dominions, whereby intending settiers are conducted round the various Dominions with a view to their ultimate settlement in them, are concluding their New Zealand tour. They are Messrs. T. H. Kelsey, F. Plutte, C. H. Rex and J. R. Smailc«. and, accompanied by the latter’s father, Mr. R. Smailes, leave for Canada by the Aorangi to-morrow. Already they have toured South Africa and Australia, their investigations having commenced last June. They are due back in England in November.
The party arrived in Auckland on Saturday, after visiting the Government experimental farm at Ruakura and various dairy factories in the Waikato controller! by the New Zealand Dairy Company. The remainder of their fortnight's flying visit to New Zealand has been spent in accumulating as much data as possible concerning dairying in other parts of the Dominion, including the South Island.
•‘New Zealand is more like England than any other part we have visited, except Tasmania,” said Mr. Kelsey this morning. "We have been rushed a tremendous lot since we started out from Home, and. although we have notes concerning places we have visited, we cannot make a comprehensive survey of our investigations till the tour is completed.” In passing. Mr. Kelsey mentioned that the party had been well looked after while in New Zealand by various Government officials, especially those attached to the agricultural division. The Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association had mapped out a tour of the urban area of the city for the party, but they preferred to spend the remainder of the time at their disposal visiting points of interest in th* ci tv.
