HAURAKI DRAINAGE AFFAIRS.
•By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.! THAMES, this day. At the monthly meeting of the Hauraki United Drainage Board, at Turua, Mr. S. S. Murray presided, and reported having inspected the Kopuarahi area with the district drainage engineer, who had approved of the proposal to erect a new floodgate at the Kopuarahi outlet. The board adopted the suggestion on the casting vote of the chairman, an amendment proposing that the Oronga drain be deepened being defeated. With regard to the extension of the stopbanks down the Waihou River and the refusal of the Public Works engineer to commit the Department, the board decided to support the settlers’ request. The tender of Mr. P. Lusak, of £037, was accepted for work on the Bagnall and Ansford drains. The board decided to call tenders for the Jubilee floodgate construction. A deputation from Netherton drew attention to the unsatisfactory drainage in the Netherton district, and suggested that the Minister of Lands and the member of Parliament for the district be asked to inspect the area. The board promised to write to the Minister.
